Button, Button, Who's Got The Button?

The rarer shorter red cable Delroy Rebop button.

Buttons seemed to be a cheap and easy way to promote bands and causes back in the day, and here’s a few from the collection. The top left is from WITR and reads “Rock N Roll Party,” although I can’t remember if that was a show, or just a promo button from the station. To the right of that is a Backseat Sally button, though the colors seem to have faded over the years. In the center is a Press Tones button, a personal favorite, as I always like the deco style text. I would have worn it to the reunion, but I just uncovered it the other day. Bottom left is a Delroy Rebop button, with an image of a microphone. Last time I saw Del was in NYC many moons ago. Finally there is a Cappy and the Frenchmen button, and though it didn’t scan too well, it reads “Th – Th – Th – There’s a Thing” across the top, a reference to a song of the same name, with “And It’s Called Rock’N Roll” across the bottom. Just to the right of the WITR logo on the button you can make out “89.7 fm”, and at the end of the word “Frenchmen” is a picture of the Eiffel Tower.

For the TRUE hardcore Delroy Rebop fan!
    There were 2 buttons!
The 1 pictured has the red ribbon all the way to the bottom of the button BUT there was a 2nd that has a shorter red ribbon!

Thanks for including a Cliches button, Santa.

I actually saw one on a young lady at the reunion show.

I wasn’t wearing one but I was wearing my Cliches underwear.

True hardcore Delroy fans, I believe the button with the truncated red microphone cable came first, and that the flaw was “corrected” with the second printing, turning the short-corded buttons into an instant collector’s item.

Press Tones, I really enjoyed watching the video of you at the reunion.

And the Pittsford Deli-Gas station that Jason worked at is finally getting its do-over… probably turning into a Hess or Mobil Mart. Simon, didn’t you work there as well back in the day? It was owned by the Captain’s folks, wasn’t it?

Yep. Owned by Rob Taksen. And I worked there too. Rob was a good egg.

WHAT WAS THE DEAL WITH DELROY REBOP??? Listen : I remember that band was like a J Geils (and Stones, Faces R&B) bar band with lots of connections to the “new wave” bands the played Scorgies. they were TOTALLY GREAT. Maybe the best rock and roll band then aside from snot boys New Math. Who was the Cuban lead singer who would twirl his micropnone and stand on tables.! They were tight. I saw them once at the pitiful Mason Jar. they were 100% percent rock and roll. I would love to know more about those guys. they were the real deal. (the Bowery Boys were the real deal too but that’s another thread)( what was the deal a-meal with DelRoy Rebop?

    Chaz,
There were U of R guys!
My dad knew them and hooked my high school band up with them.
I had been seeing them at Scorgies and The Mason Jar & on campus.
They did originals, Stones, Elvis Costello and so on!
They were all great guys also!
